ABOUT ME

My name is Malieya Pittman. I am an aspiring journalist and global thinker. I found my passion for journalism in 7th grade after joining my junior high school's daily news broadcast program. Since then journalism has allowed me to connect with my culture and the cultures of other people. Additionally, it has given me a way to learn about and advocate for the topics that I'm passionate about. Video journalism allows me to dive into the life of someone else and explore their journey and untold stories. In the future, I hope to continue to travel and use my skill in journalism to bring more untold stories to life and create more empathy and understanding in this harsh world.

Besides journalism, I love doing adventurous things with my family and friends, like snowboarding, tubing, wakeboarding, and surfing (even though I'm not that good yet). Besides that I'd say I'm fairly decent at doing flips ;), and before you ask, yes... I can do a backflip. I love the water, so if you bring me to a pool, beach or lake I will be incredibly happy. Other than that, I love my dogs, alternative and alternative R&B music, and Penne Alla Vodka.

Journalism

For four years I was a part of a nationally recognized broadcast journalism program. During that period I produced news segments for our daily shows in which I hosted, worked cameras, teleprompters, audio, and various other jobs. My program competed nationally, in the Student Television Nationals, in which we were awarded the Broadcast Excellence Award for producing daily shows even whilst in distance learning. Along with that, I competed individually in STN competitions, where I earned 2nd place in Public Service Announcements and First Place in Short Films.
